A New Bryophyte Field Guide for Britain and Ireland is soon to be published by the British Bryological Society (BBS), ideal for the ecologist who finds it difficult to identify mosses and liverworts.
Bryophytes are a very under-used group of plants in ecological assessment (EA). Unlike higher plants, they are available year round and so are good for EA in winter. Now the new BBS book will make this group of plants much more accessible to the general ecologist.
The BBS Field Guide is a beautifully illustrated book with easy to use field keys. Each species account has a colour photograph and line drawing illustrations of relevant plant parts and distribution maps. There are good species and habitat descriptions. It is really a must for any ecologist wanting to add value to habitat or vegetation descriptions. It is great value at £24.95 including postage. Purchase online from BBS website http://rbg-web2.rbge.org.uk/bbs/bbs.htm . A draft is available to view on the web site, so you can take a look before you buy it.
