Natura has been involved in forward planning at both local authority and regional authority levels. - We have undertaken the Habitats Directive Assessment for the Greater Dublin Regional Planning Guidelines. This project is fully integrated with the Strategic Environmental Assessment for the same high-level guidelines.
- We have been commissioned by several local authorities to provide reports on Local Biodiversity Areas within the context of a Local Area Plan. Local Biodiversity Areas (LBAs), are sites that are of local importance but are not of such significance to merit designation in a regional or national context. The LBAs are incorporated into a Local Area Plan to aid future planning decisions.
- This normally involves desk-based interpretation of aerial photography and on-site habitat assessments in the study area. Once Local Biodiversity Areas are identified then habitat networks connecting the sites can be protected or planned as “Green Infrastructure”.
