Natura has extensive experience in assessing the environmental impact of water supply schemes.
- We carry out ecological surveys of pipelines, pumping stations and reservoir sites. We identify potential adverse impacts of the development and prepare appropriate mitigation and compensation measures to address these issues.
- We have special expertise in the restoration of habitats following pipeline laying across sensitive sites such as peatland, wetland, saltmarsh and mudflat.
- We have undertaken a Habitats Directive Assessment for the Greater Dublin Water Supply Project on behalf of seven local authorities. This involved evaluation of impacts on European sites in approximately one quarter of the country.
Natura also has extensive experience in ecological assessment for waste water treatment plants and associated pipeline routes.
- We carry out ecological surveys of pipelines, pumping stations and treatment works sites before development. We assess the likely impacts and propose mitigation measures to avoid adverse ecological impacts in areas where pipelines cross sensitive habitats.
- Where a waste water scheme discharges to the marine or freshwater environment, we can undertake a dive survey of the existing lake or sea bed to determine if there are any significant features to be avoided by the outfall.
