Puffins and the Marine Ecosystem
Puffins are well into their breeding season on Great Saltee Island and many other seabird colonies around the Irish coast. Each pair lays a single egg deep in a rabbit burrow and the adults stand outside the burrow entrance socialising with other members of the colony. Satellite tracking shows that the birds migrate far out into the Atlantic after the breeding season to find the fish stocks that they need to survive. See this interesting video about Puffin migration.
